when i was cleaning the truck the other day i found an air fitting in the fender well on the driver side rear tire. what is it for?

try adding some- it may be to raise and lower your rearend (shocks)- that is not factory, but sometimes people put in air shocks to raise the rearend of their car or to allow to carry a bigger load.

it was air shocks... looked to be factory though

they were not available from the factory, but if it was done by a professional, it would look like it was- most likely added so they could tow a trailer without the backend of the truck being too low.
