Why do my brake lights come on when I turn the ignition on?

Asked by dthurm22 Aug 20, 2014 at 12:02 AM about the 1995 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Ext. Cab 6.5-ft. Bed 4WD

Question type: General

I have a 95 Chevrolet 1500 truck 4wd with a 5.7l. When I turn my ignition on the brake lights seem to come on. When I hit the brakes the lights go off then back on when I let off the pedal. Why?

The brake light switch is where Id look first.

I can check there first. I looked for 2 years for a transmission for the truck cause it was given to me by my brother then had to find a motor for it. So got the motor in and trying to get it back on the road and running. Thanks.

If the brake light does not extinguishes, the problem is electrical. Check and see if the brake light cables are chaffing
