regarding highest and regular gas

Asked by rvcjoan May 17, 2014 at 09:22 AM about the 2007 Honda Odyssey EX FWD

Question type: General

Recently was in receipt of some high test gas put into my 2007 Odyssey and the car has
been riding amazing. It is like rocket fuel. All these years I have been using 87 reg as
suggested however is it wise to occasionally put in some high test. Was told it cleans the
engine. Is this true and should I put mix high test with the reg. gas already in the tank.
Thank you, JE

Your car just calls for reg gas. The higher octane gas is for engines with a 9.5:1 compression ratio or better. The higher octane gas will only ignite when the spark plug fires. Where as lower octane gas used in higher compression engines will ignite prior to the spark plug firing. Serious loss of performance. It does not hurt for you to run the higher octane but I feel you would get more bang for your buck by running some good fuel injector cleaner thru your gas about every couple of months.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VWEwEveGTQ -- check this out. It explains why to use higher octane fuel in higher compression engines.

2014 Honda Odyssey LX, engine compression ratio of 10.5:1. So what would be the optimal octane for Economy ? Or will the programming cancel my attempts to make the best of it ?
