how long should an air compressor in a 2002 Saturn last?

I had an air compressor put in about 4 years ago & it has stopped putting out cool air. I had the Freon checked and it does not need any. I am hoping it is just a leak and not needing a new compressor. I was just curious about how long they last?

Is the compressor clicking on and of or not coming on at all ? If it is clicking on and off its low on freon and if it's not coming on at all and its full with freon check the High Pressure Switch. This switch is screwed in the side of the accumulator and has two wires going to it. Sometimes you can tap on the switch and if the compressor comes on replace switch.
