what are the symtoms of a transmission going bad in a 2000 saturn ls1

i'm driving along and suddenly i hear something that sounds like i just ran over somethig
in the road on my driver side wheel.

Sounds more like a wheel bearing, ball joint, axle, brakes or maybe you did drive over something and it's under the car?

It was the rear brakes, the braking material had unglued from the metal shoes. Thank you!
