how do I check if the fuel pump is working

Have someone bang on the tank with a rubber hammer while u try an start the car always works for me of course u must have spark for this to work.

I have a 2002 X-Type Jaguar today I was driving my car and my car died out at the light I tried to start it it wanted to start but it wouldn't do you think it's the fuel pump
