There is a wheel speed sensor at each wheel. Most likely one of them is not functioning and is failing to communicate with the ABS computer.. Your ABS system can't function if it does not know what each of your wheels is doing and reverts to standard braking. A mechanic with the proper scanner can determine what is at fault. It will be very difficult to determine without the scanner
