Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife tells me that some times when she is in 4 wheel drive and pulling away for
a stop light she gives it gas and it doesn't move. Not all the time but enough to
make her think that something is wrong. Could it be something in the computer or
skid control that is causing this. Mechanically the 4 wheel drive seems to work ok.
She said that it is not spinning but just doesn't respond when accelerating

I bet her tires are slipping. Do you have ice or snow on the ground in your area? The traction and stability control in the Toyota's will cut engine speed and perform some braking in order to gain traction. Hence it will seem like the car isn't moving and hesitates until traction is regained.
