Compatible engine for 98 chevy???

The intake manifold gasket in my 98 chevy malibu is bad, started leaking radiator fluid into engine. I need to replace my engine (3.1L) but need to now which one to get. I don't want that same engine size because that size is prone to problems with the intake gasket and dexcool. Can someone please tell me what engine is compatible if any?? Preferably one without the plastic piece in the 98 engine.

Do you really need to change the engine? Usually the gaskets can be changed with better ones and they last the life of the car. I believe the Grand Am people use FlePro or something like that. Check out www.GAOwnersClub.com for DIY instructions and advice.
