98 Cavalier Engine Swap

I would like to know if a 2.2 ltr. out of a 2000 Cav. will work in a 1998 Cav. with a 2.2 also, BUT HOWEVER, the 2000 2.2 engine doesn't have the EGR port in the cylinder head like the 98 does???  I heard the computer may not interact right without the EGR in the 98??

It will not work...

The computer will not work correctly and will throw codes, the engine will fit and run so so, but u will not pass inspection...
