do hey break down alot

Asked by jen508bell20 Apr 15, 2010 at 10:29 AM about the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter paid 3500.00 for a 2001 Jetta and I keep putting money into it, rotors, brakes, shocks, etc. Her coolant keeps leaking out, she fills it every week. Her Check engine light is always on.

Yes they are OK cars for an old lady but once you get even slightly aggressive they break. A pretty sad vehicle

they good cars but if it is leaking water it probley needs a water pump,as for the check engine light ,take it to auto zone, they will scan it for free and tell you what code it is and the part that is bad.

well, rotors and pads are going to go no matter what car you're in. and a 2001 i'm assuming 130,000 miles or so.. thats time for new struts. as far as the leak, it might not be the water pump. it could be anything. also a ten year old car has some pretty old hoses. try to look around and see if you can find where the leak is coming from. and tell her to get used to th check engine light but definitely goto autozone and get it scanned. they'll give you an idea of what's wrong. and come back here and give us the results.

Please don’t buy a used Jetta, it was a huge mistake. I love the look of my Jetta but miss my dependable civic.
