hello all i have a problem with my vw golf cabriolet 1991.Whenever i go up-hill it cuts out,no power ,nothing.It's in the garage and he's looked at everything from the petrol tank to well everything!!and now he tells me the carburator has gone and i need a new one as an old one might have the same problems.any ideas.?and if this is the problem,how much do they cost?

Not sure what could be causing it to cut out. I do know that the carburetor would cost somewhere around $1000.

Your car does not have a carburetor. It is equipped with Digifant II fuel injection system. First thing to check is for vacuum leaks and replace any damaged vacuum hoses.

my cabriolet is strange. I runs great most of the time. Once in a while while driving the rpms fall below 10k and the car bogs down. It take about 45 seconds to get to 45 mph from a stop. When this happens I drive home and park the car. Upon the next start up everything is working fine. I have a new fuel filter, plugs air filter,wires, no vaccum leaks.
