Transfer Case Defect

Asked by TransferCase Oct 22, 2014 at 10:58 PM about the 2001 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had a rebuilt transfer case installed.  When I hit a bump, a horrible grinding starts, sometimes it goes away, sometimes it doesn't.  Is this the chain, the gears, is it trying to slip into 4WD?   This was supposedly rebuilt, but it came with the wrong size bolts, which caused it to leak.  The seal to the driveshaft was also ripped around the edges.  Does anyone know what the grinding is, so that I can claim my warranty on this so called rebuilt transfer case?
