Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 Laramie SLT that will start and run, idles around
1000, but when i accelerate it stumbles... i can slowly apply gas and get to 4000 rpms no
further, but if i push it, then it drops off down to almost zero...if i let off the gas
completely it will recover....if i push the gas to the floor it will stall out...i cleaned the
throttle body and replaced the IAC and TPS...should i be looking in another direction?

Did you try adding some fuel injector cleaner to gas tank. Maybe dirty injectors. I see you cleaned throttle body but does nothing to clean injectors. Also may want to try replacing fuel filter

after putting the fuel injector fluid in the tank, the truck wouldn't start...i thought maybe they were pretty gummed up, after about an hour of messing trying to start the truck, it started fine, but same condition exists even ever letting it run to get the fluid working...how do i check the catalytic converter without tearing everything apart? Any ones have any other suggestions?

There is a filter in the gas tank attached the the fuel pump. Its called a sock filter. There is two ways to check converter remove exhaust pipe coming off engine to converter after removing engine should start right up with no hesitation and the next test has to be done at night. Start vehicle and let idle for about 15 - 20 minutes then take a look at converter if it starts to glow red you have a clogged converter.

And also they have a kit its called a ( Exhaust System Back Pressure Kit ) this will also let you if you have a clogged converter. You can get this at most parts stores.

Vacuum leak. Check your vacuum hoses and check valves. In particular the passenger side hoses that are near the top surface of the intake manifold. Replace! Zoom-Zoom!

Air intake control solenoid. That is what I needed for mine when I was having that issue.
