maybe leaky injectors when shut off. probably throwing a flooded code and cutting the fire to the plugs during cranking. just a guess.

My pickup is a 2009 Dakota with 4.7 V8, automatic, 2 wheel drive. Once it cools down completely, starts, runs, has usual acceleration/power and I drove it about 110 miles. After killing I tried restarting it every 15 minutes for more than an hour......to no avail: won't start till completely cool again......

My issue was solved by replacing the coolant temp sensor and the harness that went to it. If your vehicle surges or wants to stall it's probably your fuel pump. If engine turns over and doesn't start at all may be your starter switch relay or fuel pump switch relay. battery box If it pulsates on starting (cold or warm) it's either carbon in your intake/throttle position sensor, or idle arm sensor (both result from age and carbon build up on sensors/body) If driving and surging occurs but no change in acceleration performance, MAP sensor.
