Same year car, had the same problem. Doing the reset stuff didn't work at all, the light stayed on. Parts guy at the dealer said that since this year Malibu doesn't have chip or transponder key, reprogramming wouldn't work. Had to replace the passkey censor in the ignition. It worked in the sense that the anti-theft light went off. Car still won't start though. Worked fine until Friday when it wouldn't start and the light came on. Light blinked when I first installed the new censor, but still wouldn't start after the light stopped blinking. It's as if the anti-theft disabled the car, but it refused to re-enable it after the anti-theft was fixed. I've got another problem where the key cylinder is sticking. It did it some before, but completely jammed after I put it in the new ignition part. Gotta fix that before I can try anything else. Hopefully the dealer will have more advice to root out the problem while I'm there.

I have had the same problem several times where my cars running fine. Go to start it to go to work or coming out of grocery store it cranks like it should but then not getting fuel. I tried several of the put key in door lock it unlock it. Put key in ignition wait 10 min should start. Or even put key in ignition turn to on position 5 to 10 times and that worked some times and some times not, had to have car towed 3 times. Well this last time a friend came to help and we took the fuel pump relay and a identical relay and swamped them and as I turned key over he actually was leaning on the fuse box in car and it started up. He let go and it died. So he leaned on it again and it started right up. Took his hand off and it died. So he wedged a small peice of wood so that relay fuse box could not move. And it started right up. So I am going to have my mechanic look at that box and see if it needs to be tightened down. I hope this helps some one that has this frustrating anti lock no start crap. Good luck and have Blessed Day All.

A lot of times it could be the key itself. Dropped mine (10 floors), and it killed the code in it. Get a locksmith, make you anew keyou.

same problem happened with my 2001 Malibu, instructions were to leave the key on for 10 minutes ( I waited closer to 15) then get in the car, turn key off and turn it right back to start vehicle, my car was use to previous owners driving and automatically set off theft device to prevent being stolen. hope it helps ya out.
