The eighth number in the vin has the engine code. There are three possible engines for that year 3.9L(X), 5.2L(Y), and 5.9L(Z). 4wd models only came with one of the V8's.

Most. Sts came with a 3.9 v6. Or one of the best motors ever built the old 318. Or 5.2 v8
