Cranks and runs whe cold. Shuts off and hard to crank when hot!

Asked by Crashnash Oct 14, 2014 at 10:47 AM about the 1991 Ford E-Series E-350 STD Econoline Cargo Van Extended

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Fuel pump runs when trying to restart. Sometimes you can smell fuel like it is
running rich. Has code 116 &118.

http://www.troublecodes.net/ford/ ..Both of those codes are engine coolant temperature sensor problems. It 'thinks' the engine is cold whether it is or not, and 'chokes' the old-style single port throttle body, making it hard to start when warmed up, and run rich, and there is your fuel odor. replace the sending unit.
