Has anyone had success with a throttle body spacer?

Asked by Prangester Jun 04, 2011 at 07:24 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LS 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

I pull a 30-ft travel trailer and would like some cheap extra horsepower.  A friend recommended a throttle body spacer, saying that he had a noticeable increase in horsepower and fuel efficiency with his GMC gasser when hauling his fifth wheeler. The ads sound good, but how much is just hype?

they typically produce 2-7 HP at the wheels.

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions on economical ways to increase horsepower and torque? Getting better mileage would also be good with today's gasoline prices.

A throttle body spacer doesn't do anything for a engine with fuel injection. If it did increase horse power, people would have the throttle bodies hanging off of long pieces of pipe.

10 speed is correct, the spacer was benificial on carbs to help the air/fuel mix. But all your doing is making the air travel farther. Some people notice throttle response but that is not power, just a touchy gas pedal. Get a tune and free up airflow, but your stock air system should be pretty good on the truck.
