What can cause gas light to stay on and gas gauge no to light up on a 2000 toyota celica gt?

Just got the car and gas gauge dont
work and gas light stays on and yes i
put gas in the car! Please help me so i
can get this fixed.

Check your fuses. If fuses are good, then it sounds like your sending unit is bad. Here is a video that shows how to remove the pump and sending unit. It sounds like your float is stuck. If you get the back seat out, you may get lucky by rapping on the top of the plate. If not, you may as well just replace the entire pump and sending unit since you have to tear the whole thing out.
