2005 Chevy 4 wd cuts off like u run out of gas and the started back up about an hour later then it did it again about 15 minutes later and started back up the second time can someone help

Okay i got totally screwed by a mechanic. He said he rebuilt my transmission but didn't warranty ran out one week after experation date. I am stuck. I can get a used transmission with the transfer case for cheaper than rebuilding it again and replacing the transfer case on its own. The transmission I want to buy has 54,200 miles on it. How can I know if I can used it in my 2004 chevy avalanche? Please help. 5 answers
