automatic transmission

Asked by hydrosolutions Aug 13, 2009 at 04:35 PM about the 1994 Suzuki Sidekick JLX 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

car downshifts for no reason, (flat road, constant speed etc seems like OD switch on shifter colum is acting on its own, had AT serviced recently, doesnt fix problem.Sometimes when I accelerate the car wont automatically upshift, I have to take my foot all the way off the gas to get it to shift to higher gear Seems like it may be electrical instead of mechanical problem. The problem is erratic, doesnt occur all the time or under same conditions. Any familiarity with this problem on these models?

Your VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) could need to be cleaned or replaced. Either way, it is usually best to flush your transmission fluid after servicing the VSS.
