3.1 pontaic wont start only about half the time

I have 2002 Pontiac 3.1 it won't start about half the time. When it won't start if you crank it until the battery is almost dead like one or two more cranks it will start.
I put a new fuel pump on has 50 lb of fuel pressure what is the prob
