maintenance lights going on

Asked by jr88amp May 06, 2013 at 08:15 AM about the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last night my battery light went on.  I put a new battery in less than a year ago. I do not believe it to be the alternator, car runs fine, headlights do not dim when stopping or get bright when accelerating.  The airbag light and battery lights were alternating on and off this morning along with the transmission shifting hard.  Then while accelerating, the transmission was deciding not to plat nice.  Car acting as if in neutral unless I hit the gas hard.  Then car just shut down.  Could this be a computer telling each part of the mechanics of the car, how to function?

It's a car reacting to a low voltage situation. Have the alternator checked. It sounds like a broken wire since the light is sporadic.
