Pontiac Grand Am 2001

Asked by Nancy Kirby May 06, 2014 at 10:50 AM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Question type: General

My Pontiac Grand Am GT 2001 has been giving me a lot of trouble lately.  I'm having a terrible time getting up hills or inclines and the RPM's jump from 2 to 3 to 4 and there is no power .  I have been using a lot more gas and now it is whistling when I put my foot on the gas.  Does anyone know what the problem could be?

If the engine seems to run fine at idle and low speed, but has no power , it might be a simple fix. You may have an exhaust restriction, such as a clogged catalytic converter or rust buildup in the pipe. If the problem has been getting worse over time, that's where I would start looking.
