2001 grand marquise transmisson filter

that mushroom shape piece, very small, has o-ring. Where does that go?

If it is hard plastic and was just laying in the tranny pan when you removed it from the transmission it is the plug that the factory puts in the transmission fill tube hole during assembly, it is pushed on into the pan when the fill tube is installed. Just throw it away. If it wasn't just laying in there then we will need a pic to determine what is is.

Well definitely not a transmission filter what your describing this is the trans filter, F6AZ 7A098-A, AT Filter

Yep that's it. I worked with a transmission guy who had a collection of these, every transmission he serviced that had one he would put it on a little cardboard runner. When he retired he left all those runners under his bench, there must have been over a thousand of them all stuffed back under the bench. Have a pleasant day.
