Please help .... the trunk latch is stuck closed so it will not "latch' on to the u shaped trunk closing mechanism.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A friend pushed the latching mechanism closed on the trunk lid to tie the trunk down with a bungee cord but we didn't use it as afraid it would damage it.  Now I cannot get the mechanism to open so that the trunk will latch.  The electric motor is working fine.

Thank you,

you could try putting a screw drive through the latch and add some upward pressure as you or your friend hits the trunk release. this would simulate the upward motion of the trunk opening due to it being sprung.

I just had this same problem a few minutes ago. I opened the trunk from the automatic button and a piece of luggage got caught on the "escape handle if you are locked inside of the car" . The mechanism got jammed, thus not closing and catching at the latch at the bumper. GET SOME WD 40 and lubricate the mechanism and take a screwdriver to unjam it. Make sure the little hook at the bottom right side is visible and it will now move . Use your automatic button on the driver door. YOUR TRUNK WILL NOW GO UP AND DOWN, both closing and opening.
