Can you jump start a battery if the cable connection to neg post melted the clamp on the shirted cable 1999 Audi A8 has no neg post in the trunk and that is why I hooked to neg post of battery

I tried to jump start but their QAA a
shirt in the cable connect to the
negative post
The cable heated up and melded at
the cable clamp
Battery seems ok but can you jump
start the Audi through this battery as
perhaps it melted the negative lead
on battery
It looks fine and I still get clicking
noise under the hood when I turn
ignition on
I am Leary of jump starting now as I
do not want to damage the cars
electrical
Hope I havnt already

Hook negative cable of jumper cables to metal on the frame of car or to a metal bracket on the motor. Normally there is a good spot to hook it to the metal right where the alternator attaches to the motor. That's where I try to hook mine too. Also make sure the cables are hooked up correctly to both vehicles. Positive to positive.
