What causes a 2006 Honda Pilot to loose Acceration power?

Asked by ShunMitchell Nov 18, 2015 at 03:33 PM about the 2006 Honda Pilot EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This has been going on for about a year and half now. So this is what usually happens-while driving and once I come to a stop, the VSA and check engine light comes on and the car will not accelerate pass 40mph. I originally thought it was the oil use that the mechanic were putting in but that's not the it either because even after a oil change it still does it. Need help figuring this out.

You need to know what code is set when the CEL comes on. Without that it is a guessing game. One guess would be a bad catalytic converter.

I had the same issue with my 2006 pilot. It was the alternator.

Also, when the car will not accelerate it has gone into the "limp mode" (allowing you to get off the road safely) but you should not continue to drive have as it could be unsafe when this happens on the road. 90% chance it is the alternator.

Last time my alternator went bad all the lights came on and the car wouldn't start. This time the engine light flashes and the car looses power but can still be driven, after turning it off for a while it goes back to normal until it does it again.
