Timing Belt

Asked by Tammy May 12, 2015 at 04:39 PM about the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Turbo GT Convertible.  Interference or non-interference?  It was traveling at
highway speeds when it broke.  The shop where I towed it does not have the ability to
check the compression on the cylinders.  Or maybe he just doesn't want to do it.  He
says without even opening the hood that the valves are bent.  Should I A) tow it to
another shop 40 miles away or B) tell him I want him to replace the timing belt and
hope or C) his recommendation is to scrap the car and buy something else.

You can't check compression with a broken timing belt

I have a 2003 got turbo 2.4 The belt broke doing 80 mph. I put a new belt on, and it fired right up. I took it back apart and replaced the water pump because it was the cause. The shaft moved, causing the impeller to rub on the engine block. $34 for a belt. And $46 for the pump. Bad thing is, the car only has 75000 miles on it. All I can say is that I'm glad that I can fix my own stuff.
