Unless you are an experienced mecchanic with a shop full of tools and a second car to drive, don't even THINK. About it!

I, too, have a 2004 PT Cruiser. I have about 228,000 miles on it, so I have had the timing belt changed a few times. Unfortunately, changing the timing belt is one heck of an undertaking, as the engine compartment is tight and the belt is located in a difficult to reach location. Fortunately, I have a terrific mechanic who has become an expert at PT Cruisers by working on my car! Just remember to change the water pump at the same time, as it is also down there in the same area. Good luck!

I am a seasoned mechanic Myself and have replaced many timing belts(mainly on Fords). I had a look under the hood and it seems like one heck of a job since there is limited space to work with. I will definatly change the water pump as well since I suspect it has got a bit of a leak going on there. Is there a kit available (tensioner/idlerand the belt) Or do these parts have to be purchased seperatly? Thank You for Your responses!
