.Ford Taurus Charging System

330

Asked by Rob May 01, 2014 at 10:44 AM about the 2005 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus.  The check charging system light keeps coming on but all electrical items work fine,  lights, blower, etc.  I took it to Advance Auto Parts and they checked it out with a high tech analyzer and said the charging system was fine.  I read a blog that said the Taurus is very picky about how much voltage is sent to the system and to make sure you have a genuine Ford Alternator,  so I changed that.  Then someone suggested changing the battery,  so I changed out the battery.  Another blog suggested checking all of the fuses, so I did that and changed them around from 40 amp to 40 amp 10 amp to 10 amp and so on.  The light still comes on.

Ford builds crap and charges a premium to fix crap. The systems are overly complicated and needs a much simplier design

Ok so I'm dealing with a similar problem with my 2007 Taurus SEL At 66,500 miles currently (bought used from a local dealer at 64,245 mi ). Replaced battery as standing voltage was 11.3 v average after 12 hour rest. New battery standing voltage 12.4 v. Cleaned terminals, checked fuses, Measured charge rate ( new battery 14.3 volts, old battery 13.8 volts). Auto Zone load tester said, the alternator was bad ? So maybe; but what I have found so far is a bad connection between the alternator and the sensor wire plug (3 wire plug) on top of the alt. When I push on this connection all of a sudden the charging system comes to life and starts working again. Haven't figured out yet if it's a poor plug connection or a internal alternator problem. However I have not yet scanned for latent stored computer codes nor deleted those that can cause a reoccurring system error. Much like any computer they should be scanned for accumulated bugs on a regular basis. These are good solid cars but, like all American cars they may need some fine tuning and with a little love they will last and, be a reliable friend.

Having this problem ,2007 Taurus , recently bought . Replaced Alternator , light immediately returned .Mechanics checked ...all charging working perfectly . Sounds like I've inherited a nightmare flaw that Ford won't address. We should start a relentless social media campaign against Ford to address this problem.

Reading the above posts, sounds like totally different problems. Some are one thing, some are another. I agree with the post that they have made them entirely too complicated. I have a 72 Chevy PU and have had NO problems. So, now on to my comments here. We have six Tauri in our family, and my 06 is the newest. None of the cars have had the P0622 codes show up except for mine. It pops up along with a battery light and says that I have a CKT F fault.....so far, have NOT found it. I have traced and cleaned ALL grounds, All Alternator and battery connections and still have it doing the same thing. Usually when it is cool out (90s?) comes and goes...sometimes twice in a minute or so and sometimes stays on for 10 minutes. I am now at the PCM which is a royal PITA, as only the dealers can do anything with them and they want $100+ to do it. My battery and alternator is new now, and I am about to pin point the #3 wire on the Alt Connector. I have good voltage everywhere on my car. The #3 wire is the Org/Yel wire that for some reason changes to Org/Light Blue after the Battery Junction box fuse F1.26 (10A) and then goes back into the Max Fuse (175A). I am about to pull out an old alternator from the shed that I had tested last year and it was good. Maybe stick it back in....but I also agree with some that MOST problems can be traced to a bad Ground. If I don't die of old age before I find the answer, I will post it here.

My son has a 2003 ford taurus. The battery light comes on and stays on and its been for week but the car drives fine and he just ignores it now. He drives to and fro to our home every week and that is about 70 miles one way. Not sure what to do because the battery is only a few months old and everything seems to work.

Same here. 2014 Ford Taurus. A great American car. Why Ford has this one problem? I don't know. The chargibg light keeps coming on, chirpping-- check charging system-- I've changed already 2 batteries and 2 alternators, changed 2 lights each side (twice). Fooled me once, fool me twice shame on me. I always liked the Ford Taurus, But I need this car to work. It costs. Its costly for the average person. If this is intentional, like badeball, maybe congress should start adking questions about safety. Think about it Ford. Give me a break.

Here is how to diagnose if it's not the alternator or the battery and your battery light still comes on. For me, I had to replace the Computer (ECM) for you it will be a break in this wire or the computer. they are about $200.00 online.

I, 100%, solved this same issue with my 2009 Ford Taurus by going through every fuse in the fuse panels. I found a fuse in the panel under the hood that was not fully seated in the slot. It was making contact and the accessory it fed worked most of the time, I never noticed it not working. However, the fuse arced when I touched it between the fuses tab and the slot it slides into. The constant arcing between the fuse and holder was drawing more current than normal operation causing the voltage of the battery to occasionally dip bellow optimum voltage creating the system warning light to come on. For good measure, I replaced the fuse with a new one and made sure it was securely seated in the holder.
