My 05 500's ac blows hot air when idling. A mechanic had me add freon, but it didn't help. Now it doesn't cool good even when driving. Any suggestions??

Yes, mine is doing the same thing. It is the compressor. It is going to cost me $650 to have it fixed. Airconditioning mechanic said he has already done 6 of the 2005 Ford 500's. Ed Jones

Mine is the same 2006 model - won’t cool until it gets to a certain speed and while idle hot air comes out. Was told it would cost $2000 or more to repair!

Look up 'scroll compressor control valve' for your Ford Five Hundred. It is a cheap (under $40) part that fits under a plate on the back of the compressor. The system will have to be evacuated, then vacuumed and recharged, after the fix. This part fails and causes these symptoms. If you replace the whole compressor, it WILL fix the problem, since the new compressor will have a new control valve. But that's $$$, instead of $. I've had to fix them several times.
