why would the upper ball jouint break

I backed out of a parking spot and and put the truck in drive before I went 10 feet the right wheel poped off at the upper right ball joint. The ball joint seperated from the upper A arm leaving  the top half of the ball joint in place. I was left setting on top of the tire and hub assembly.

Hi lopaka,

There are several reason that your balljoint has been damaged and or break apart.  Below are just a few of the possible reasons.

1. Your Tire and wheel offset.
2. Heavy off-road usage.
3. Excessive towing and/or hawling.
4. Running up onto curbs/parking stops.
5. Hitting curbs from the side.
6. Faulty materials.

Hope this helps!
