Dealer costs are a bit high, I have not heard to many bad things. But if the price is right and you like the car, Enjoy my friend.

Cheers

they'll cost in in the mid and high 20,000, bmw doesnt shine much on resale values.
as for maintanance, it'll be like any other car in terms of how often to service it but it'll cost you alot more for parts than a normal car like a japanese or domestic.
being that its a bmw, iam sure you'll easily go over 200,000 with correct maintanance but i wouldnt want to drive it with all those miles -,.-

the E46 body is a good body and a solid car I have a 330ci and a 325i  both great cars very little problems just
minor things.  Thermostats are notorious for going out on them the get stuck open all the time.  Engines are really
good and don't really have a whole lot of issues. Best car I ever owned

the cars are amazing, especially since its only 33,000 which is practically new,
i would suggest you do the repairs yourself as they are very easy to do, however if you go to the dealer expect to shell out some cash, i havent taken mine to the dealer once yet.....
They are very reliable cars and will lost longer then u expect if u treat them nicely....lemme know if u need more information

Another problem is the transverse control arm. If yours is worn out, better get another one like from FEBI, but not the BMW. It's a problem they knew about...

Aside from that: I have a 2005 318i (one of the last E46 built). Despite the different engine (2000cc, but different ECU to make it a 318) and it's at (calculating km to miles) 40,000 miles now. I've had two workshop visits so far:
Oil Service at 12,450 miles
Inspection 1 at 33,000 miles
The latter gives you a good indication: normally that service is scheduled at roughly 28,000 miles. The car, however, indicates when it needs to go for the service. Mine only sent me to BMW at 33,000. That shows that, if treated well, the car is not very demanding.
The body of the E46 is very well and should give you thousands of miles of "sheer driving pleasure"... :)

good cars used to work on them for a living. 33,000 miles is nowt i have an old e36 and its on 145,000 and it still sounds smoother than a lot of newer machinery. just do all the usal checks as you would with any car and make sure it drives straight and true and you'll be fine

fantastic cars fella. a bmw is good for about 400,000 miles, without any fuss. so dont worry about 33,000 miles.it not even worn in yet.
nothing much goes rong with em. a common fault is suspension bushes at the rear, if you hear a klunking noise,or knocking over pot holes or speed humps they are worn out, a cheap fix .
they dont have a service interval like most cars, the computer moniters your engine and lets you know within good time wen it is due.all i can say is treat it with respect and it will treat you back, but as a whole they are very easy to maintain fantastic to drive you will love it,i find myself driving the long way home just because i dont want to get out behind the wheel.

if you wanna know anything just send me a email b1g_al@hotmail.co.uk, i will answer all

If you like it buy it. I've got a 95 325i (e36) with 150,000 miles and it runs great. Short of an italian exotic they are the most fun to drive.
