i just got 2 bmws a 84 318i 4cly 5 spd and a 89 325i 6 auto does anyone know if the std from 84 will fit 89 with or without engine swap was told by old owner that bmw autos suck and it on number 3 but also at 496,000km also have a 302 with a 4 spd i have seen one on utube proves it is posible but no details on how was done the 6 in my 325 feels just about done but i am just starting to like it
the transmission from the 318 will not work. you need to source a Getrag 260 transmission which is what comes with the 325. the swap to 5spd IS POSSIBLE but it is not for the non mechanically inclined. i know of a local guy that did the swap in 4 days from auto to manual. look up www.r3vlimited.com or www.e30tech.com and search for 5spd conversions.
i am thinking shes getting a 302 with a 4spd its just too slow for my needs 168hp factory should give it instant 300
