All brands have their humourous side to them. Ford is no exception - First on Race Day to Found on Road Dead!
On a more unique note, there's some amazing books about the Ford Motor Company. Some are biographical on the man himself such as Henry Ford to some of the superstars of the company like Lee Ioccoa. The company today is in siginificant trouble financially as the onslaught of competition and the cost of employee benefits continue to saddle the company with debt. It's now to the point where the Ford family is not in control anymore. Bill (William) Ford was CEO until two years ago when he could not turn around the company and has a senior management team that is now trying to turn it around. The Ford family has had numerous CEO's at the helm from Henry Ford to several sons. Some were more succesful some have not.
Economic times and wrong guesses on what customer's wanted and trends of era have plagued all the American manufacturers. Asian and European companies have had their own challenges over the past two decades, but none like the big three in its home territory. I often think that if Henry Ford was alive today, what would he do to turn the company around.
While not a fan of Ford myself, I did happen to drive a 1999 Black Mustang GT. It was the fastest and best looking thing I could afford, so that's what I got. It was a good car and I have no complaints. The car ran strong every day until some douche on the shoulder of a road pulled out in front of me, hitting me and ultimately totaling my baby. I managed to put 40 thousand miles on the odom in 10-11 months, so I spent a large amount of my time driving and working on the car. It never gave me problems until I got side-swiped. I didn't see why people joke about how Ford stands for shit like Fix Or Repair Daily then and I still don't. But to answer your question, 'Ford' is not F.O.R.D., it is simply a man's name; Henry Ford. That's it.
people make those phrases cause they need to grow the hell up, and thats a fact not an opinion.
My first car was a '91 Escort... Loved the car.. Paid $200 for it it had over 400,000kms on it... ran like a dream, never left me walking... but at 400,000kms and a $300 repair bill (window and struts) I bought an '83 Buick Skyhawk.
wiped it out on a guard rail one day, and never looked back... Hated the car.
So I bought an '85 Crown Victora. Beautiful car. I'm still driving it today... Absolutely love her...
Just remember... Ford Might Be Found On Road Dead, But at least my Ford made it to the road... Would you like a lift to the shop General? ;)
I am sure this question was designed to stir up some people. Looks like it has. And I will say, although I am not the biggest fan of Ford, one of the best riding travel vehicles I have ever owned was a Ford Taurus. It seemed to float down the highway. Great ride, and nice acceleration too. Back windows quit working at 47,000 miles, fuel pump went out at only 63,000 miles and the air conditioner compressor blew up catching the car on fire at 86,000 miles; but great ride quality.

gotta agree with justin and owen- can think of plenty of things people say ford stands for, but then again i am sure we can think of plenty od honda or toyota names- just a waste of time- rather be a ford lover than a hater on anyone elses ride. ford stands for american pride- as for the taurus guy- thats not one of their better cars- i once had 3 of them lined up in a the shop all the same year all the same problem- alternators. but you can get any car that a lemon- no matter the make. ny husband talked ne into getting a new subaru- for him of course- and in 40k miles the main seal blew- head gasket and valve cover gasket. it also went through 3 cats in that time. needless to say it was under warrenty- but we no longer have that thing

heard that a million times- as long as anything is dead on the road then i will always have a job. trust me i see just as many foreign cars as i do domestics- and you know they are way more expensive to the customer to fix even small problems.

josh listen i dont want to argue with you. you seem like a nice kid- my family has worked for ford for over 30 years. if any company has a problem with their cars they recall to fix mistakes, or change production- that is usually why there are cars made mid year that are different. ford makes a good car. we may not see eye to eye on that. insulting a company i am proud of is almost a personal insult to me. all i need to say is mustang! every new platform goes through trials and need to be modified. i dont understand why you are in the ford club if you dont like them. not trying to hurt your feelings here. but name any car and i can give you issues they have - seriously any make model. i've been in the field for years and am ASE certified i have seen it all. let me ask you are you ford bashing because of experience? have you ever owned one? do you fix cars or are u just going by what you hear? let the ford bashing go- what do you drive???

insulting you. I don't drive but my family has had fords. My dad had a 1993 lincoln mark VIII and it drove and had the craftsmanship of
a tin can (no offense) and he also had an 89 mercury sable, which was built like a cardboard box ( again, no offense ).My mom had a
ford windstar which was one of the good ones and we got rid of it after two years and then she got an expedition eddie bauer edition
with no probs at all. My dad got the problem cars because they were used.I can't blame you or FMC for any of those things because

But I have to say, Ford has stand tried and tested in my eyes. My first car was a '91 Escort that I bought with 400,000kms... never changed the oil (maybe once...) wailed on the handbrake, revved the snot out of her in neutral and dropped it into drive to squak the tires... and the poor thing just kept coming back for more. I'm driving an '85 Crown Victoria right now... and in both cars, the build quality and care seemed to be quite high compared to other cars I've driven. ( and I've driven a variety of things from the '63 Galaxie I learned to drive in, to the '96 Cavalier which made me glad I bought my own car when the old man started driving the Cav...)
You'll just have to get some experience for yourself there Josh, listening to other people can only go so far.
no worries josh- although i do remember the rear windshield busting out of the car (windstar) while it was parked in the driveway- they curved the angle wrong, anyways of course i forgive you- old cars are only as good as the owner who takes care of them( not your rents but the previous owners)- gotta ask yourself why does your fam keep buying ford products? i hope someday when you can drive you consider the blue oval- no matter what you choose take care of it and it will take care of you! dont be silly form your own opinions from your own experiences- the world of cars has alot to offer- take care of yourself ---- look forward to friendlier conversation in the future!
we haven't had blue ovals on a while because 2002 is when we traded our last ford to buy a GM minivan which fell apart after 4 years.
we currently have a toyota corolla 2009, and a 2006 basic dodge grand caravan which has a problem with the Airbags.
to tell you the truth, I do like fords alot but the old ones interest me like the 1972-77 villager wagon, 1977-79 Lincoln Mark V, the
lincoln mark VI, Lincoln Mark VII, and mark VIII. I really like the way those cars look because big cars are my favourite. I will consider a
blue oval in the future. my most favourite types of cars are full size cars with the column shifter and split bench seats.
I also have a question for you. how come the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car got discontinued?
those cars were awesome, especially in the 80's and 90's. it felt like riding a sofa on wheels when I rode in those cars, which I really
like.
honestly dont know why they got discontinued. they only obvious reasons i can think of are the same for any car- they werent selling enough of them anymore or they found a more suitable platform for buyers. its all about business ya know. there are still plenty of those cars around- especially the crown vics- but govt standards are constantly changed- it was probaly about 10 years ago when they started really pushing the emmission and lower gas consumption issues. basically its in the best interest of the companies to make more fuel efficient cars- those town cars are like boats and gas guzzlers none the less. lol kinda like riding on a sofa- or more like a whole living room!
Far as I know, they're still Making Crown Vics... They're only being offered as fleet cars though to Taxi and police services.

Vicky's have been taking a hit though since most police services have switched to Chargers as thier fleet vehicle... Which I'd be mad about if Chargers didn't make such hot looking Cop cars! lol
some of the cops up here do have chargers but there are still lots of crown vic around- espacially the undercovers- however they do own alot of explorers these days.

But, of the current Ford lineup, only the Escape and Ranger have rebadge Mazda counterparts (Tribute and B-Series, respectively)
Traditionally, Ford and Mazda have been pretty separate when it comes to engineering and assembly.
Ford tends to share more platforms with Volvo cars.

but seriously i am a huge ford supporter and would drive one over a chevy any day, it just so happens that ford is one of the only manufacturers that has a short easy to spoof name. we own a 1958 skyliner with the police interceptor special 352. the entire car has been rebuilt, but the engine has not been touched. it runs beautifully and even in such a heavy car provides a surprising amount of oomf. i dont think that the fucked on race day one really applies concidering fords success in nearly every type of racing. if they were that bad john force would be out of a job wouldnt he? and uh how many years was it that the ford GT40 took first at LeMans?...

Wow calm down Marissa (no offence) she was just responding to the topic with her opinion (may not be the same for you or i) but i agree and disagree with both of you. I personally wouldn't buy a new Ford, GM, anything foriegn, just because I'm a Dodge guy. I do support all North American brands so i dont like those kind of brandings for car makes. I personally love 60's Mustangs but would have a 60's Charger first. I'm currently driving a 1987 Dodge Aries and love the reliablility factor. I'm sure I'll see plenty of different cars when I start my apprenticeship soon but I love the place I'm going to work love Dodges. Oh well I'm rambling. Keep this as a fun topic none the less.

autism and I have a passion for cars and ford happens to be one of my favourites. I have said somethings to some people on here and

I was keeping up to my buddies hemi Dodge ram on a separate occasion (which in theory should be half the weight of my car)
so in my eyes... Fords have proven themselves. besides... the more critics something has... the better it must be ;)

my 1st was an '89 Taurus SHO with over 250,000kms. Bought it in '98 for a thousand bucks from a co-worker. I drove that thing for 5 years without it needing ANYTHING. I filled up the gas tank, changed the oil, and drove! That's it! Now, somebody tell me what NEW car you can do that to even if you're just leasing it? and btw, almost forgot, I STILL own it, and it still runs like it did that 1st day!

oi oi oi mate! I WISH THEY HAD THE FALCONS HERE, ESPECIALLY THE FPV's!!! I'd sell everything to have a FALCON GT-P! I think that is THE BEST Ford vehicle ever built at anytime, anywhere! What a BEAST! 400+ hp of ground pounding DOHC V8, naturally aspirated (NO NEED FOR TURBOS HERE), that SWEET rumble of american V8 at high revs (as if you're at a NASCAR event), good 'ol RRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAARRRRRRR wheel drive, something the Americans forgot about...(except for the few that have weathered the storms; Mustang, Crown Vic, Town Car, Corvette) until recently with Chrysler's 300, Charger, and now the Challenger. Well, if i remember correctly, it was Chrapsler who led the Big 3 with annihilating the RWD from their offerings back in the 80's, so i'm hoping they're gonna be the ones to lead 'em back to it...IF they last long enough; depending on what Fiat will do or have in store for them.
I believe that the Big 3 moved away from their American roots, their strengths like REAR WHEEL DRIVE, V8, keeping their customer base coming back for more, while adding a COUPLE of import fighters to their line up. In the case of FORD, their biggest mistake was to keep the Falcon in Australia... Imagine a ground shaking, rubber burning, high performing, sophisticated, modern, good looking--NO, AWESOME looking, fire breathing, rear wheel American sedan with ALL the high tech stuff of the imports, here in North America for Americans and Canadians (along with Aussies already) to be proud of and BASH ON THE STREETS AND IN SALES. GM was a little wise enough to bring the Holden Commodore (Falcon's competition) and named it the Pontiac G8. I say a little because i believe it's a little late for the public to see it and hear about it--especially when the Pontiac nameplate is canned now! anywayz, let bygones be bygones!

That's funny...EVERY garbage motors i've owned, i've had the BIGGEST problems with...the GUTLESS blew a hole in one of the cylinders (replaced by a Datsun 510), the ventura gave me nothin' better than 6 miles a gallon FEATHERFOOTING (it was a buick 231, 3.8 V6) (replaced by a Honda Civic), the Crapillac rot and was scrapped (replaced by the 1st le sabre), the 1st le sabre blew the tranny (replaced by a Mercury Grand Marquis), the second le sabre needed a brand new $1,200 air intake AND a new $500 EGR at a 100 Kms (Dad's still driving it...only because it has 125 Kms now), the pontiac has the engine light that keeps coming on and and on and it only has 50 Kms on it (the BIGGEST mistake i EVER made, bought this one brand new...stupid gm points, thought i'd give them a chance...lol, NOTHIN's changed, still the great old gm that thinks nothin can touch it...LOL, the BIGGER you are the BIGGER your fall), the comp reader says that everything's ok, but every other day the light is on...go figure...I HAVE... garbage in, gargabe out...and who puts garbage together? garbage motors does...i DONT need to believe, it IS a fact, basically, they (gm) have been RAPED(saturn, saab, hummer, and not to mention european operations) and kidnapped (pontiac, gmc, oldsmobile, and soon-to-be-added buick)...LOL That really only leaves Chitvrolet (shitvrolet) and ONCE THOUGHT TO BE upperclass Crapillac...now that the dust is settling, I SEE YOU REALLY HAVE 1 CHOICE...quoting you, "its WALK or i WALK." roflmao
and just for the record...the 5 Fords i've owned, 4 are STILL ON THE ROAD with 361 Kms, 201 Kms, 161 kms, and 70 kms, and the Mercury which had 270 Kms was sold only reason is because the 2nd le sabre had 12 Kms on it when we bought it. it was practically brand new!
while the 6 garbage motors i've owned, 4 were SCRAPPED, and 2 are on the road, 1 with 50 Kms (i'm stuck with it, if it fetches $3,000 it would be a miracle!), the other with 125 Kms.
just for the record, i think "absolute junk" is a synonym of GM...
