I learned to drive with a stick shift and have driven many a car or truck with manual transmissions but have never driven a five speed, when does the 5th gear become necessary?

most cars the 5th gear is the old 4th gear, the more in between keeps the engine at an efficient RPM to save fuel, some automatics now have up to eight speeds,
