Leaf springs and a rigid rear axle! That should be enough right there. If u desperatly want a Mustang,go for a Saleen,or a Rouch! Not just the plain GT 500.They tweked and given it the handling it deserved ein the 1st place.....OR a BMW M3 ;)

I agree with Lars750... (btw.. it's Roush)

The Shelby GT500 is $10,000+ more than the Ford GT500, same engine, transmission etc.  For the 10G you you can put on your own wheels, tires, handling package (or use the Ford parts book) & fill up the gas tank many times etc.  Park your Shelby GT500 next to my 'plain' GT500 & I'll say "Nice logos & badges, what'll it do?"  I'll bet 1/4 mile, diff of maybe 2/10 second (that's $5G/tenth).

Worth it?  Your call...

Hey.mate :) Have u seen the GT 500 WEST COAST CUSTOMS  have buildt especcialy for The Man:Caroll Shelby himself? Some cool widened wheelarches, some air-intakes(ALL in metal) Ram-air shaker-hood:) and lots of bhp!#1 goes to Caroll himself, and he said he loved the handeling of the thing. They`ll build 50 of them, all of them purple, with ghost purple racing-stripes,and all numbered.THAT will be worth something in 20 yrs. Each one numbered, and autografed by Mr Shelby and Ryan Something (owner of WCC)

On the 2010 Mustang GT you can get a "Track Pack" suspension upgrade from Ford Racing, right from the dealer! I guess you can even get a whipple supercharger too, pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. has one with ALL the options, even broke the drifting world record with it.
So if you don't mind adding some more $$$ to the price tag you can get a very good handling Mustang right from your Ford dealer :)
...and insurance would probably be a disadvantage too :/

there's a big problem. from the factory (stock) the motor leaves alot on the table. great design tho but not enough compression or rpm. the stock back tires aren't wide enough to give good road grip for take offs.  the zr1 corvette is a better buy for the same price.

I get what you mean....but the Mustang GT doesn't even compare to the ZR-1. It was designed to compete with the GTR, 911 GT3, and the Ferrari 599, and it's not even close to the price of a Mustang no matter how much you add to it from the factory. The 2010 GT500 starts at around 45K more or less, and the ZR1 starts at over 100K
Did you mean the Z06? ;)

if you look on ebay then you will see that the new GT 500's are being sold for around $100,000 at dealerships

Do you mean the 2010's? I haven't seen any 2010 GT500s for sale...but yea the 08/09 GT500KR and Super Snakes do get that high, mainly because of their value as a future collector car. You stick a Shelby badge on anything and it'll be worth big some day. But even then, they weren't supposed to be competition for the ZR1...as far as I know....

well it has to compete with something, the Nissan GTR possibly?
but i wonder what the 50th anniversary will sell for in the future when it gets time to start making them eh?

Possibly, but everyone knows the GTR will spank it anyway when it comes to handling. I guess you could say its competition for the Challenger SRT8 and the Camaro Z28 (if they'll actually build it), or any other car with a V8.
Well seeing as how the first 2007 GT500 sold for around $600K at the Barrett Jackson collector car auctions, I can't even imagine how much the 50th will go for!
