80 Dasher shifter/transmission linkage
Hi, my 4 spd manual is stuck in 1st gear. The gear shift moves forward and back, but can't find neutral, or shift out of first. I removed the console, and the shifter is still attached to the shaft (not sure what to call this piece) that extends forward. Any suggestions?

I own a vw fox I have a problem with second gear I think it is that your culth bearing is stuck or your sinkomus is spining & not engaeing
I don't have a part diagram for your car and am unfamiliar with it, but it could have lost a linkage bearing or an adjustment screw could have come loose.
Make sure that lever action is making it down to the transmission... Find where the linkage meets the tranny and make sure it moves when the lever is moved... Also you could try shifting the tranny (while the car is off and on stands) at the transmission and see if it's an internal problem... Just a thought.
Sorry very general suggestions, but with no experience on your vehicle it's the best I can give you.
I have a 1982 VW Diesel Dasher that does not run. I'm having trouble finding someone who knows how to repair it in the Chicago area. Anyone have ay suggestions?
