My 2000 Tahoe refuses to stay on the learning mode

I got this weird problem. I am trying to pair a central lock dongle with my car, but the car refuses to stay on the learning mode. The computer etc. don't give me any clues on how to go forward. I had problems with drivers side central lock, but I got that fixed. Still can't get the thing to work.
