1997 z71

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 z71 silverado 1500. It has
193,000. It has the 5.7 v8. I got it last year
and have put about 5k miles on it. I've only
changed the oil and front breaks on it. I am
uneducated when it comes to trucks but I
would like to be able to get some
maintenance done on it so it will run better
and last longer. What are some DIY type
things I would be able to do to it to keep it
healthy?  Thanks for your help in advance.

If the coolant has not been changed in a few years it would be good to change radiator hoses, flush the engine and install new coolant. If the fan belt(s) are old then change those too. If you leave it sitting for a long time put Sta-bil in the gas and get a battery tender to keep the battery charged up. Changing fluid/filter in the transmission and gear oil in the differential would be a good idea too.
