Clunking sound in the (right) rear area when braking at slow speed

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought this car. My wife and I were looking for a cash car that we felt would hold
up for awhile. It has 180,000 miles on it, but I pulled a CarFax and Autocheck. I looked
at reviews until my eyes were about to fall out of my head. I met and spoke with the
owners. The car has always been garage kept. For that many miles, I was blown away
by how good the car looked inside and out.

Knowing that with a car with this many miles, it doesn't surprise me that I will find
some things along the way that needs to be fixed.

I noticed a clunking sound that seems to be coming from the right rear. Only during
slow speeds; like backing out the driveway or something.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Something loose in the trunk, brakes, exhaust hanger or suspension component.

Try just lightly apply the brakes as you back out of the driveway and see if it goes away. If it does then the problem is in the brakes. something missing or broken.
