Can anyone tell me if there is any car that even comes close to a 944 in terms of affordability/performance for age and coolness?

Yeah it's ok, but it aint no porsche!!!! Apparently the rotary engine is not reliable and is prone to breakdown.

not alot of cars from the 80s and ninties come very close to the 944 when it comes to looks and performance/affordability. to me mazda rx7s, toyota camry gts, nissan 240, mitsubishi 3000 gt, are some of the closest u will get. if ur shooting 4 porsche theres alwys the 928 and 968 both closely related to the 944 in price and performance

yeah ... the rx7 does it for me too, although it is front wheel drive which isnt the best realy, is it? as for the camry!!!!! its a big pile of steaming shite, the nisan is pretty good too heavy and performance is weak to be generous, mitsubishi is a lemon, 3 ltr engine! should be great, but it isnt, built for the american market and as a result it is weighed down with useless extras, cant corner and only does 0-60 in about 8 seconds approx - pretty shit ehhh? As for the 928, some people say that its not a real porsche as it was originally designed for audi, has a ridiculously weak engine and is a bit soft alround, the 968 though ... is almost perfect in my view.

if i had to pick a mitshibishi from that era i'd have the starion, 4 wheel drive, rally heritage and a great big turbo, still cant beat the 944 turbo, but its close. if i was goin fot toyota i'd have the celica gt4 for the same reasons, 4wd with a turbo! cant think of a good mitsubishi right now from the same era, the jap's are reliable but just dont have the same kind of passion or feel that the porsche does, having owned a 944 and a rx7 and a gt4 i'd still go for the 944 every time

Hi Asher, the corolla is OK, not very cool though, I actually cant think of any car that is the good alrounder that the porsche is ... nothing, not one!!!!
