Possible starter problem, please help.

I recently bought a semi-project car (98SVT). When i first got the car it wouldnt fully shut off when i removed the key so i would disconnect the positive cable from the battery, which seemed fine for about a week. Now all of a sudden i went to start her up the other day and the engine wouldnt fire up, the accessories all come on but not the engine. Im not really a gear head and any advice would help, thank you.
