I'm looking into purchasing Audi Q5, but have second thoughts after reading about engine excessive oil use.  I'm interested in models build in 2013 and up.

Probably best to purchase a certified one through Audi so you have some recourse in the event if an oil consumption issue.

Our 2014 Audi Q5 never consumed until 64,000 miles now it uses over half a quart per 1000 miles as measured by Audi dealer. AudiUSA states this is acceptable, but will not release specification to owner or dealer. Its beyond warranty so there is no recourse by Audi. There was a class action suit for 2011, so apparently they have not fixed the problem. If you check the maintenance program it does not mention this or mention replacing piston cylinders or rings.

August 2017, we purchased an '18 Q5. About 4000 miles in we got the oil warning light. Owners manual states it may burn a quart of oil every 600 miles (yes not a misquote). We talked to the dealer and he said the oil is burned through the turbo. Sounds like excessive to me. Car runs well but we now carry a quart of oil with us whenever we travel distance. Our actual experience is a bit more than a half quart every 4-5000 miles.

yes ! it still burn oil. I have a 2014 Q5 ,I had a test from Audi dealer on 08/08/18 .today is the 14/08/18 only 6 day the engine light show that i need another quart of oil again.so i had to bring the car back to the dealer . they told me it might need to change the new piston and it will cost me 4k to 6k. so if you want to buy a Audi think twice. This is gonna be my last Audi

I've got a 2013 A5 with the CPMA motor. I purchased this A5 after having oil consumption with my 2011 A5 with the previous platform of motor. Well, at about 80k, guess what?? Oil consumption! I'm at 100k miles now and consume about 1L every 1000 miles. My last audi for sure.

Do not buy !!! Period . I bought a 2015 Audi Q5 with 58000 miles . I was not aware of this oil consumption issue before . My Audi burns 1 Qt every 500 miles . I have never seen something like this before . Audi should do something about it , Audi should listen customers complaints and fix this oil consumption issue .

Have a 2015 Q5 with 54,000 miles. Burns a quart every 600 miles. Also had to have the timing chain replaced at 54,000 miles. Audi offered no assistance. My last Audi.

My 2013 Q5 has been burning 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles starting at 65,000 miles. Then down to 1 quart of oil every 700 miles and now every 500 miles. I drive around with oil. It now has 88,0000 miles on it and I'm thinking of getting rid of it. My mechanic says to buy Lexus.

I own 2010 Audi Q5 with the older 3.2 engine. I have 173,000 miles on it and use about 1 qt of oil every 10,000 miles. About a quart in between oil changes, pretty darn good.

I have a 2012 Q5 2nd hand at 97k miles and I am troubled by excessive oil consumption in a car much advertised as luxury, now there is panic your motor might stall on the highway. 1998 Corolla does not short oil at 200k miles so also any Lexus or Nissan brand . Audi should have a fix, there should be a protest to the manufacturer or immediate class action suits to get a recourse.

That people answering "no" are misleading you, and probably work for Audi. I have a 2016 Q5 that I've maintained well, and at 60k miles it started consuming about a quart every 1200 miles. I'm getting rid of it as soon as possible.

I posted a question about excessive oil consumption with our 2014 Audi Q5 2.0T and I have to correct my post. I was informed that I was incorrectly reading the oil gauge. I'm an old school, shade tree mechanic with a lot experience working on my 2003 Saab 9-5, but with no experience working on the Audi Q5. I was told by a friend in Audi's Service center to first let the Q5 warm up to operating temperature, (the temp gauge should read half way between max and minimum, then after shutting off the vehicle, allow the oil to drain down into the pan, (at least 5 minutes) before taking the reading with your electronic oil level gauge. I made the mistake of reading the oil level when the vehicle was cold in the morning and apparently that gives a false reading. Still, when the car was about a year old we were getting an oil warning light at right around 10K miles, which in my opinion is still unacceptable.

I have a 2014 Q5 with 106k miles. At about 80,000 my car started requesting oil very frequently. The check engine light started coming on and started showing signs of hesitation. I did a tune up around 98,000 by request of the dealer and to no prevail I’m putting 1quart of oil every 600 miles. I now carry oil in my trunk. As much as I love my car this will be my 1st and last Audi.

I still have a 2013 A5 that required a liter every 1000 miles. I started using liqui moly off of Amazon and I'm up to a quart every 5000 miles now. Doesn't fix the problem, but helps a lot.

Mackenzie, that sounds like a great tip. I'd never heard of liqui moly before so I'm looking into it. Can you be more specific? They make a lot of different products including engine oil. Are you adding a full quart or do they have some additive product? I'm getting about 1500 miles per quart now using full synthetic valvoline. Also, I spoke candidly with an Audi mechanic in my area that does a lot of business and has all positive reviews and a 4.9/5 rating on Google, and I asked if any of their customers were paying to have the problem "permanently" resolved (replacement pistons, rings, etc.) and he said not really - all of their customers who have the issue (which he said is a lot of them) are just living with it and adding oil. He also said that, in his opinion, the problem will only worsen over time until it becomes critical. I love my Q5 to death, so this just makes me sick. When I bought her, a senior VP at the company I work for congratulated me and said "Get ready to enjoy excellence!". Well....Excellent is not how I would describe this engine or Audi as a company.

Chris, I replaced the dealership oil and now use the liqui moly 5W-40 oil and have gotten great results. I tried the oil additive previously that liqui moly makes and it made minimal difference for me. The actual oil has let me go 5000 miles between the low oil light coming on and my car has 110k. In my audi community, if the car isn't covered by the dealership to have the pistons and rings replaced, very few people have paid to resolve the problem. The lowest I've been quoted is around $3200. I love my audi and haven't had one other issue in the last 5 years, but I can't justify spending that much money on a car that could possibly develop other problems. Sorry to hear you're having the same issue. I wish audi would step up and realize that the newer engines with high miles are having consumption issues as well. But again, if you read in the owners manual, audi does state that 1 quart of oil consumed every 1000 miles is within specs. That's what the dealership told me when I brought my car in. Buy the oil and try it out though! :)

Perhaps there will be another class action suit and another "generation" of us will get our warranties extended. :-) If I knew anything about that stuff I'd see if I could get something started. I took it in the other day to have a steering issue looked at and while I was waiting for them to pull my car around, a woman pulled in in a Q7, got out, and said to the attendant, "I need to be topped off again, please." I just shook my head. It seems crazy to me. Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'll definitely give the Liqui Moly a try.

Do Not buy an Audi. I have a 2015 Q5 and yes it burns oil (lots of it). Further I had to replace the timing belt with less than 100,000 miles and at 110,000 miles I had to replace the engine. Seven months later the engine had to be replaced again. Audi Cary paid for that but states when they take the head off and determine what is damaging the engine I will have to pay for. They have no idea until they take the head off. Needless to say I'm beyond concerned. I would NEVER buy an Audi.

Yes, I am experiencing excessive oil consumption with my 2015 Q5. In my 2010 A4 Avant, the issue started at 100,000 KM, which Audi bobbed and weaved on until 175,000 KM, at which point they said too much mileage to do anything. I got free oil as compensation, until the car died from a timing belt issue at 285K. My Q5 was fine until 200,000 KM, and now it is exhibiting the same issue, a litre of oil every 700-800 KM. I’m thinking about unloading it, but what can you get for a Q5 with 208K on it?

I have a 2012 Audi Q 5. Beautiful car, but nothing but problems. Expensive ones. I through a quart of oil a month and I’m at 75,000 miles. For this expensive of a vehicle I am sooo disappointed and will never purchase an Audi again. Wish I kept my Honda.

Our 2013 Q5 has oil consumption issue at 67,111 miles ( About 1 quart every 800 miles) . Extended warranty company refuses to cover Oil Consumption so our service advisor reached out to Audi and they will repair it for $2100. I guess they are supplying the parts and we're covering the Labor. We're only doing this because we just put in brakes, and CV Joints for about $4000. Also motor mounts went but extended warranty company covered that. After reading some posts we will be looking for new SUV before something more major goes wrong. We only have about 2800 more miles to goes on a very inadequate mileage limit of 70,000 miles. Disappointing.

I think we have about 96K miles on our 2014 Q5 2.0T. At present it goes through 2 quarts of oil in 10,000 miles. Audi claims it's acceptable to go through 1 quart of oil every 10,000 miles. We've also gone through 3 out of 4 wheel bearings and other issues, some were recalls. Recently we had 1 injector go out, our extended warranty (Fidelity) wouldn't cover it, but Valvoline did because we had purchased their injector cleaning service some time ago. I suppose we'll drive this car until it's second extended warranty expires @ around 138,000 miles. Vehicles this expensive should at least be able to outperform Toyota's, but not even close. Presently there's a Toyota dealer in Florida, "Wesley Chapel" that includes a lifetime warranty with their new car purchases. I don't know how they manage a lifetime warranty, but that's the way I go next time.

Hi All, I just brought my Audi 2015 Q5 in to Audi of Greenwich for the 4th time regarding excessive oil consumption. I have 90,000 miles on it and am now adding 1 quart every 500 miles. Previous visits Audi said the oil usage is with in "tolerance". I am concerned about how quickly the car took a nose dive, from using 1 qt per 1000 miles to 1 qt per 750 miles and now 1 qt per 500 miles. This is all within a few months. I wish there was another class action suit. So upsetting, I just paid off the car.

I think we need another class action lawsuit. I purchased a used 2015 Audi Q5 in March 2019 and have had in the dealership multiple times for oil consumption. They now tell me the vehicle needs a new engine and the extended warranty will not pay for a new one only a used one, therefore Audi will not do anything with the vehicle unless I pay the difference of $5,000. It’s awful that I recently purchased the car, have a supposed premium warranty, and an I repaired vehicle

I just submitted a request to get another class action lawsuit going. This is definitely not right what Audi is doing to customers. They have not fixed the problem and I’m not happy.

Ok, I think we can all agree that the issue with excessive oil consumption in an Audi with the 2.0L Turbo is still there, after all these years, certainly since the 2010 model year. My trusted (non-Audi) mechanic says it is an engineering design issue exacerbated by the fact that they push the 2 litre turbos so hard. It does not seem to be an issue with the sixes, the SQ5 in my comparison. What seems to be universal is Audi’s refusal to a) acknowledge the problem, and b) compensate us for it. What do we do?

I went in for 2nd part oil consumption test on my 2015 , I need to put a quart of oil in every 500 miles. The Audi dealership did contact Audi Corporation to see if they would do anything. They know there is a design flaw and would not do anything since it is off warranty. It seems the car is very noisy now and I do not feel like the car is holding up well. Really disappointed since I just finished paying the car off. Has this issue been fixed for the later Q5 models?

I have a 2014 Audi Q5 with almost 95K miles and I am having the same issues described here. It was all going fine, only adding a quart every 1000-5000 miles until about 4 months ago. It has degraded significantly within the last two months. I'm at 1 qt of oil at 600 miles right now. Called Audi and they told me I had to bring it in for the oil consumption test that consists of two phases. Each phase costs $150. Then they told me the fix would be between $4K-$6K. Unbelievable. I love my Audi but will consider trading it before pouring that kind of money into it. Had no idea about this oil consumption issue. Other than that I really love my Q5. That's too bad because given these issues, I will not buy another Audi again.

To everyone still having oil consumption issues, I still swear by changing your oil to Liqui Moly. Before using the oil I was going though a quart every 1000 miles. Since using Liqui Moly, I'm up to a quart every 6000 miles. Obviously doesn't solve the issue but it has helped tremendously!

His name is Junior Damato and he writes a column for Newsday a Long Island Newspaper called Auto Doctor. His email is info@Motor Matters.biz He basically said that the Audi is not the only vehicle with oil consumption problems . He said the more expensive cars using the Turbo 4 cylinder engine have this issue. He said to ask for financial assistance from Audi ( we ended up paying for parts ) and they covered the labor. Our cost was $1880. He also said that if we didn't want to fix it to ask for a $10K voucher towards a trade-in. We obviously fixed it and will use a High-Mileage oil in the future.

Run from the Audi Q5 as fast as you can. I have the 2012 Q5 and my Tensioner and Timing Chain just failed at 65,000 miles....which is crazy in my eye's and cost around $10K. I was told by the dealership that it is because of inconsistency oil levels from over oil consumption problems. Now, my oil consumption problems have me adding oil every 3 weeks and the dealership is telling me the only way to solve the issue is by replacing the engine. I am tired of throwing away money on a car that is only 7 years old and has low miles on it considering.

Ok people guess what!. Today, cruising at 70mph for about an hour, all of a sudden, EPC light comes on, shaking like a tire has blown, losing power rapidly, and according to someone following me, black smoke came out of the exhausts. Barely made it to the side of the highway. Car dead in the water, had to get it towed. All this after the ongoing oil consumption issue! I am scared that the timing belt went all of a sudden - any thoughts?

GuruHZMWG: You issue reminds me of an issue my wife had with her Audi Q5 2014 2.0T. Exact same symptoms that she described while she was driving on the expressway. Turned out to be a bad fuel injector. A bad fuel injector has the potential of ruining the engine when it locks open, flooding the cylinder with fuel. Fortunately, the $1K repair was covered by Valvolene because we had paid for their fuel injector cleaning service early on. Hope your issue is something simple and cheap.

2014 Q5 2.0T. 105k. Loved first 100k. Now burns oil like a b. Maybe a quart every 350 miles. Also just replaced timing chain for $3,000. Piece of crap. They have a problem and are playing corporate legal games. Seriously question any Audi purchase. I’ve also had enough of this 4cylinder turbo bs for any car. 6 cylinders only in future. If someone knows how to join a class action lawsuit please post the link.

Beginning at 75,000 my 2013 Q5 needs 1qt every 800-1200 miles; tried increasing the grade but with no avail. Along with the 5 factory recalls, I would definitely, NOT recommend buying an Audi Q5. I have owned 8 other brands in my lifetime and have never encountered this before. Dealer says -- old cars just have more "friction."

I have an Audi Q5 with around 78,000 miles that started consuming oil at a rate of 1 quarter per 500 miles. Unbelievable ! Never saw something like this. It happened all of a sudden after my last oil change with the dealer. The dealer will top it off all the times I stop by but I talked to them and they asked me to pay for a Consumption Oil Test $220. I have to carry oil with me in the car. There has to be something wrong here that the manufacturer AudiUSA does not want to talk about. It doesn't smell right! They should need to investigate and make a recall. It is obvious now!

Talked today to a driver of 8 Audies in the family. Fom A4 to and 8 and many Q5´s in between. He said ALL of them give the low oil before reaching change milage. Why did they not just put bigger oil tanks to avoid this inconvinience if their engines burn so much oil??

I have Audi Q5 2014 with 71000 miles. Since it hit 64K mark earlier this year, I have been getting low engine oil light every 3-4 weeks (600-800 miles). I discussed with the dealer and had an oil consumption test (200$) 2months ago, and the dealer told me that the oil consumption is normal. I have added extra quart of oil around 8 times since May 2020. Now I keep 1-2 quarts in my car all the time. I called the dealer again last week, and he said this may be the problem with piston, and it will take a couple of thousand dollars to fix it. He suggested that I can keep driving the way it is or consider trading in the car. He also said that there is no additional support from Audi for the 2014 q5 model year at this time and I will have to bear all the cost if I decide to have the piston repaired. Though I like the drive of the car, I don't think I will be buying an Audi again.

I’m response 20 from 2 months ago. I took my Q5 for a second opinion. Paid a bunch of money to find out multiple piston problems. Either new engine needed or $6 to $7k repair in car with 105,000 miles. Mechanic said it will be interesting now that the 2014s are hitting these miles if it’s a massive problem still with the engine. He thinks it is. I immediately sold the vehicle. My wife wanted a Q3 and I said no way. My neighbor was looking at Audi and I said stay away. I bought this damn vehicle new with intent to drive to 180k. Did every bit of maintenance on this vehicle.

I was thinking about buying a Q5, so sad to know it can have the oil problems. Electronics seem to be giving also problems on the latest ones. Not buying one any more. Presently have a Honda CRV, dont like the look since it is a 2011 and for some reason feel its more of a female car but must say it is a tank. No problems at all. ( Just 68K km on it. )

Ok everyone, it is time I rejoined the conversation and brought you all up to date...my story is not a good one but I hope that the next 4-5 years will be good to me. When I last posted, my 2015 Q5 had flamed out at the side of the highway, with 232000 KM on it. Audi wanted $6K just to take the engine apart and tell me what was wrong, then presumably spend another $10-20K to fix it. I said no, and had it towed 100KM to me long time trusted mechanic. Sadly despite best efforts he could not fix it, could not get proper oil pressure where needed. Ended up buying a used engine with 30000 KM on it (~18000 miles) for $7K CDN, and putting that in. May sound crazy but it’s a 2015 in excellent condition, so I figure for $15-18K I get a virtually brand new Audi Q5, which I will run for another 4-5 years. BUT,........will I ever buy another Audi of any description, any model, any year???? NO!!!!!!

How can we get a class action suit going? I have a 2014 Q5 Turbo 4 cylinder and it’s doing same thing.. every 600 miles a new qt. What’s scaring me the most is what I’m reading about it leading to worse problems. This is wrong by Audi and the dealerships who sale them for not letting the consumer know of the issue. I’m going to try the LiquiMolly Mckinzie recommends because it seems it’s helping her a lot.. just hope it’s not a bandage that gets ripped of violently out of no where one day.. thinking I make have to dump this one. Hate too tho cause I do love it for the most part.

I think it’s clear this problem is persisting on later models. My 2015 Q5 started burning oil every 800-1k miles at about 85k. We topped off and it would run another 800-1k. Just the other day my car started shaking and EPC warning light came on. Un-driveable to nearest shop, which is 16miles away. Had it towed and diagnosed by an independent Audi specialist. He told me there is a class action suit for 2009- 2013. He said the 2015 is same engine. Car is currently at dealer and they are going to see what Audi will do if anything. After reading these threads, I’m not hopeful and i know they are going to recommend timing chain replacement. Really?!?! How can a 4yo chain go bad? I had an ‘08 Passat and replaced timing belt at 105k. I, absolutely, think we should begin or extend class action to later models of Q5s.

I would never recommend an Audi. The fact that they and their service departments at rhe Dealership turn an blind eye to this shows their lack of integrity and commitment to quality. At 75,000 miles my 2012 Audi Q5 burns a quart every 500-600 miles. I have to carry oil in my car now! My mechanic told me he has the same engine and you just fill up the oil every month, while the Traffic Circle Audi Dealership (Long Beach, CA) acted as if they had never heard of the issue and want to charge me an additional $400 for an oil consumption test to prove the issue. I put in a quart every month, I know I have an oil consumption issue! Are you kidding me. Why do I have to pay you for you to confirm! Anyways, i looked up the class action lawsuit, but it doesnt say anything about replacing pistons which is what my mechanic said is part of the issue? I just thought i'd chime in with pretty much the exact same story. 2014 audi q5 2.0t, 88K miles on it. At about 70K miles, started burning oil. Mentioned it to dealer at oil change time and they said they could run all these expensive tests on it but said we should just add oil. Now we are adding oil about every 600-700 miles.

Count me in as well, same issue. 2015 Q5 2.0T started consuming oil at 80k miles. Dealer tried to steer me away from oil consumption test and offered $10k for trade in. Had service done only a week ago, low oil just came on after only 300 miles. Have an appointment Monday morning for the test. Class action will be the only way to get Audi' s attention.

I have a 20104 Q-5 which started using oil at 80,000 mi, needing a liter at 500 miles. At 89,000 oil add needed at 300 miles. Took the car to Audi in Houston, and they performed a leak down test, then recommended a replacement of pistons and rings at $8300. I declined the work and the dealership suggested I contact the Audi Company to see if they would be willing to offer assistance. has anyone received assistance? Just a note, this "suggestion" seems like an acknowledgement Audi knows the engine as a design fault.

4 months ago my 2015 Audi Q5 was burning one quart oil every 400 miles . Dealer asked for a oil consumption test . They agreed my Audi was burning too much oil . Solution : New pistons . My adviser at Audi dealer took the time to call Audi USA and they agreed in replacing pistones and everything to fix this problem for free . My advice is call your adviser and ask him / her if they are willing to help you .

To follow up from previous post, my 2015 Q5 failed oil consumption test and service advisor called Audi of America about piston replacement. He provided all service records and test results, and repair was covered 100% (over 90k miles on vehicle).

2011 Q5 2.0T Started getting oil consumption issues around 55- 60k. It burnt about a quart of oil every 500- 1000miles. I luckily caught the issue within the time frame where the lawsuit was still being enforced. That forced Audi to run the car through its tests. They ended up replace the pistons, etc. in the motor, and bam no more Oil burn. So for those cars that didn't get repaired in time, you're sh*t outta luck. Sell it or trade it in before 60K. I now have 90k on mine, and it never burns any significant amount of oil. I will tell you that the fix did reduce my mpg by 2-3.

I think my story is very similar to many here- I have a 2014 Audi Q5 with around 90,000 miles as of January 2020. -Brought the car in to the dealer (January 2020) because I thought the oil level was dropping too quickly; paid for diagnostics only to be told nothing is wrong. (I didn't know about the oil consumption problem at this time, but I probably would have assumed it was a problem up through 2012 models given the class action lawsuit I learned about later.) -Dropped by a dealership again in February 2020 because oil light came on- they topped it off (probably around 91,000 miles this time). -Brought it into the dealership in March 2020 AGAIN because after topping off in February, the level seemed low (now at around 92,000 miles). They finally recommended doing an oil consumption test, which I did, and after the test they came back with "Timing Chain Package" and "Pistons and Rings" replacement recommendation for over $3500 (with "nice gesture" help from AoA). Oh but not done- I received a call later and was told that after looking at the engine the entire thing needed to be replaced, which I did and which was obviously much more expensive than the original repair estimate. I probably should have dumped it, but I couldn't in good conscience let someone else buy a car with those problems. -Given how many problems are reported here (and who knows how many people there are out there), it's obvious the problem is NOT fixed, at least for 2014 and 2015 models (let's see what happens as 2016s and beyond get older/more miles). I literally just signed up tonight, but can we start a forum for anybody interested in a class action lawsuit?

Oh, I forgot to answer the original question: I obviously wouldn't recommend Audi :) Try Lexus- I have a 2007 Lexus RX 350 with over 200,000 miles, and it's only needed a new alternator.

I have a 2013 SQ5 just at 170K and the Need Oil indicator just came up. Then after reading the manual it does say it may need oil every 600 miles. I'll see how it goes but if it keeps coming up I'm not paying 4k to 6k to repair so time for another car and guess what - not an Audi. It was great till today but I was one of the lucky ones that it didn't happen earlier.

I bought my 2013 AUDI q5 new in April 2013. Starting around 80,000 it burns one quart oil every 800-1000 miles even when using 10/40 synthetic Mobil 1. The local Audi dealer looked at it and said that there needed to be $1500 in repairs. My local mechanic said that these repairs were unnecessary and nothing could be done about it. I might also add, that the sun visor has broke twice, the gas cap come apart from the door, and there have been 5 recalls for various reasons by Audi.

I am in absolute shock reading all of these similar stories. I have a 2014 Q5 2.0t with 118,000 miles on it. I got an oil change and then at about 1,000 miles the low oil light comes on. I take it to Audi and the guy immediately says that “we don’t normally see this is the 2014 models but it could be an oil consumption problem” and he could recommend doing the tests but it will most likely be an oil consumption problem and will cost $7k. WHAT. He said it so casually. He goes on to say or i can just swing by when the light comes on and they will top it off for free. I was told when I first bought the car that if I always get the required services that this car would last me years. They have been telling me for the last 3 years that my time belt will need to be replaced yet wouldn’t fix it while i was still in warranty. I drive 50 min to work every day and get scared that something will happen while I am driving. He told me to start planning for a new car if I don’t want to pay for the service. Really at 118,000 miles you’re telling me this?? I am so upset that this is a common issue and Audi is doing nothing about it.

I purchased my Q5 five years ago brand new, recently I noticed my oil light would appear between oil changes (every 5,000 kms). More recently, I noted my car seemed to guzzle oil, having used liqui moly for the last two years, if not longer. Today, my car burns oil and needs a refill every 500 kms. If you're considering purchasing an Audi I hope you have deep pockets, as Audi WILL NOT take any accountability in selling defective vehicles. After being charged for an Oil consumption test it appears I need at least 10,000 worth of repairs. The only thing the dealership would offer is basically enough money to cover the tax or 1,500 off a new vehicle. NEVER buy an AUDI, it will be my first and LAST. So much for fine German engineering.

I have a 2015 Audi Q5 purchased November 2014 brand new and at about 75k miles had oil consumption issue. Of course they are telling me to do the test which 140s for the first part of test and 450s for the second part. Spoke with Audi of America and stated after I do the test they would look into financial assistance. I’m not doing a test . I know this is an oil consumption issue that they never fixed. Where do I go to start a class action lawsuit. They need to take ownership for their defect. They had a class action lawsuit back in 2014 that I didn’t know about until now smh

Same problem here. 2014 Audi Q5 2.0T, burning about 1 qt of oil every 500 miles. Audi not seeing this as a defect is a huge disrespect with customers, to say the least. Any updates on a class lawsuit??

It seems as if the issue is only with the turbos. I don't see anything regarding 2009-2011 3.2L non-turbo. One thing I found out was running with low oil will cause issues with the timing chain.

Stay away from 2.0T engines, either A4 or Q5. Excessive oil consumption, turbo wastgate flaw, timing chain and tensioner. All expensive to fix.

I just purchased my first Audi 2014 2.0T w/ 120,000mls, and about a couple weeks in I noticed oil light comes on. I went to get an oil change now not even 2 weeks later the oil light comes on again. I got worried because I know that's not suppose to happen. So, I decided to google Audi oil change problems, and this page comes up. As, I'm reading this article in disbelief. Hearing so many people with the same issues and Audi has not acknowledge this. What do a person do when it's the Audi defect and not the customers. This is not acceptable we have to come together and file a class action lawsuit.

Own 2014 Audi Q5 with 120KM on it. Audi serviced and nothing but problems. Timing belt needed to be replced dur to car stalling at 100KM. Water pump went at 120Km, AC not so cold anymore, automatic mirrors acting up, transmission shifting rough into 2nd gear when cold, and infamous oil burn. Had mechanic check oil for leaks , nothing, now car with 125KM burns almost 1L of oil for 1200KM. Very unreliable car and expensive to repair. I will never buy German car in my life. For 30 years i was driving Acura, lexus, Toyota, and visited mechanic for oil changes, now with Audi I'm a regular customer. Stay away

love my 2016 Q5 but now consuming a qt about every 150 miles crazy stuff. How can this not be a factory recall on this engine ? So many people have the same issue and when I am in the service area i hear folks coming in with the same issue constantly. I guess back to BMW but I like the Q5 better

GuruJTG9M My prior SUV was a Buick Enclave brand new off the lot. Had nothing but problems of all kinds for many years. Power Steering Pump, Coils constantly failing till all were replaced under warranty, transmission problems for years, radiator leak and i can go on. Audi has been 1000 times better except the oil issue now at 135K miles. so if your point is go american . Never again and i have owned at least 6 SUVs from GM prior

Craig......I never owned American car. Acura. Lexus, Toyota, Nissan. is what I drove for years and never had any issues. Audi Q5 is the first (and last) German car. I wanted to give it a try and paying dearly for my mistake. Acura and lexus is the way to go if you want to keep your car beyond warranty. Audi turned out to be very expensive experience for me . Lesson learned.

GuruJTG9M SUVS i have always gone American till this Autos i have owned Nissan-2, Toyota, Infiniti -3, Acura -3 and BMWs 4 now I like the way the German cars drive better than anything else i have owned hence me getting into the Q. never had any iasues with BMWs or any of the above cars and i only bought the Q5 because i need the room in the cargo area vs the X5 . The Japanese cars are very reliable i know but i do not like their SUVS very much

This sounds too familiar. I had 2013 Audi Q5 and the oil consumption issue started around 80,000 miles. My car was still under warranty and the dealership played it off and made it no big deal until the warranty ended. After the warranty was done they suggested I replace the the pistons. Even after replacing the pistons it didn’t fix the problem. Then they told me I needed a new engine. I sold the car and will never ever buy an Audi. Owning that car was the worst headache ever. There needs to be a class lawsuit. The dealership kept saying the newer models don’t have this problem and they acted like it was all normal.

Yes, when I went to AUDI dealer to adress oil consumption issue dealer just smiled and said since car is not on warranty anymore ( 125KM) I can drive like this adding oil and eventually it's $10K repair............so much for German Engineering and Audi care. Just as you I sold the audi junk last week and will never buy another Audi again..........when I go for a trip I like to take case of beer with me instead of case of oil like AUDI cars are required.......

I went with a 2010 3.2L V6 non-turbo. Everything I have read about the oil issue is linked to the turbo engines. I have put on almost 1000 miles and haven't had any issues. This is why people need to do research before they buy a car. I was looking at an Acura or Lexus and my wife really wanted the Q5 which a friend of mine told me not to buy an Audi. He is a finance director for a Subaru dealership and I have bought all my cars through him for the last 20 years. Since he wasn't going to have anything to do with me buying an Audi I was on my own. I did a ton of research and finally came to the conclusion that if we are going to get a Q5 it's going to be a 2009 or 2010 3.2L since these are the only years that didn't have a ton of issues pop up. The cause of the timing chain breaking is that people are running the oil pressure too low too often which causes the tensioner to fail and the chain to break causing thousands of dollars in repairs. If you own a turbo you need to make sure you are not letting the oil pressure get low ie. waiting for the oil light to come on before you add oil. Yes it's an issue that Audi should address but since they are not, you need to be diligent in making sure that your car doesn't break. If that's adding a quart of oil every 600 miles then you need to add a quart of oil every 600 miles.

Same issue here. Audi Q5 2014 with the 2.0 TFSI. Heavy oil consumption and engine started shaking at 90k miles. I will have to drive it for a few months until I decide what new car to get and it won't be an Audi. So disappointing. I loved the way this one drives but not if I risk a failing engine.

I purchased a 2014 in December from a Non Audi dealer, took it out for test drive, ran clean, no issues no signals to indicate a problem. Car was well taken car of. I was looking for another car at the time and thought it would be nice to buy this good looking car. Sometime in January 2020, i got my first indicator of oil low, so being that i have had similar things happen in the past with other Japanese and American cars...i did what the next Joe would do..I added the appropriate amount of oil. All seemed well, until about 2 weeks later light comes on again...Now I am like WTF. Do it again...and again..and again...for weeks. Now I am in this problem...WHAT A LEMON!!!! I cant believe this issue!!!! of coarse I went to a 3rd party German Cars Mechanic to avoid the Dealers pricing at all costs...but same thing, guys like oh timing chain, 2 pistons...recommend whole engine replacement. I about fell out of my chair. I told the guy, just replace the spark plugs, fuel filter and regular oil change with a heavier grade...I cant see my paying for more than what i am paying for the CAR... WHAT A DAMN SCAM all these foreign cars.. I realize this life of trying to have a nice car and appear sophisticated is all bull. Who in their right minds pays for this type of service in the thousands of dollars for repairs...I guess I need to get a better paying job or get back to my American and Japanese Cars.

To Guru994VZB: Looks like everyone falls for this German Engineering crap. Yes car drive nice ,but who cares if it starts falling apart at 100,000 . KM. That tells you something about their quality. I did my homework before buying it, and I assumed after loosing Class Action Law Suit in US Audi fixed the oil consumption and timing chain flaw in 2012 and newer models. Apparently not as the same issue still persist in as new as 2018 models as I found out from Audi owners on different forums. I wish people were more aware of what crap Audi sells and stop buying their cars until they fix the problem. There should be a ' DO NOT BUY AUDI" campaing on social media started to make people aware of Audi crap. I always drove Japanese brands and never had issues, I fell for German Engineering crap and cost me dearly. I got ridd of the car and bought Lexus Rx......couldn't be happier.

Not much of help , but probably your best option for you right now is to take a loss and trade it in if it's still drivable. Unless you can get dealer to fix it under warranty or at least pich in some $$$$$ or free labour. Either way you'll be looking at large bill.

2014 Q 5. The engine light appeared s few days ago. We took the car to https://www.hurleymotorsportsinc.com/. They asked us about oil consumption. We have been having problems with oil after 70.000 miles when we started to put oil every 800 - 1000 miles. The guys from Audi don't know what is the problem with the engine yet We paid $50,000 for the car in 2014. It's unbelievable to me how naive I was to trust Audi, saying that it's our fault that the car was consuming so much oil. We really need to take action with this oil consumption. I have a feeling that my engine git broken because of the oil consumption.

I am reading with interest the chain regarding 2014 Audi Q5's and oil consumption. I too have a Q5 which seems to be having a very high oil consumption especially since the last oil change. I have 124,000Kms (approx 74,400miles) on my Q5. For most of the time between oil changes (every 15,000Km) I would need to add 1 litre of oil. Which I did. However, since the last oil change at 112,000Km I have needed to add 1 litre of oil every 800Km (480miles). This is very excessive oil consumption. I have been using either Castrol or Quaker State oil so cheap oil is not an issue. Somewhere up the list a person said they replaced their water pump at 120Km. Lucky them, mine went at 78,000km, just out of warranty. I see lots of talk about starting a class action suit but has anyone actually done this? If there is a class action suit being started let us know how to join it. I think my time with the Audi Q5 is rapidly coming to a close. I thought that the Q5 I would keep for a long time and be my last car as I am getting up there in years and really don't want to buy another vehicle. My son has a Tesla which he loves driving, maybe time to look at one of those!

Does everyone with issues have the 2.0 turbo? Anyone have issues with the V6? My wife's Q5 is going through oil like crazy. I'm putting a quart per week but she loves the dang thing. If it's the 2.0 turbo engine that's the lemon, maybe we'll get her a V6... but if it's also a lemon, it's time to move on from the brand altogether.

UNaverage Joe When you say adding oil like crazy, how much are you adding? A quart every 1200 miles is acceptable in audi's eyes. It even states that in the owners manual. Is that really acceptable, in my opinion, no way. Do you wait until the low oil light comes on, or do you use the mmi or a dipstick? If mmi, there is a procedure spelled out in the manual on how to do it. The mmi has known issues to not be accurate. If you dont have a dipstick, I highly reccomend getting one. You could be overfilling and thats bad.

Hi DJ. I haven't checked the actual mileage lately. Earlier in the year is was about a quart every 600-800 miles when my wife was driving to work every day. She's been driving much less lately but the frequency has increased. I'll track it and update. I've been adding when the car gives the warning at start up. No dipstick, which is annoying. I'm going try to find a part number so I can get one.

Well, a large deer totaled my wife's Q5 last night. Thankfully my wife and daughter are fine. My wife really loved how it drove but I can't see us buying another Audi due to the engine issues. Now to research what she'll like as much that's more reliable...

I have read in this thread a lot of stories of excessive oil consumption, which mirror my own experience with the car—2014 Q5. There's also talk of class action. Can we start a class-action suit? Can someone take the lead on that or share for the rest of us the best way to do it? My mechanic said: "There's years where it was a big problem, between 2009 and about 2012 to '13, but in the manufacturing process you don't know what parts they were continuing to use until what date or exact VIN number." "The VIN number gives us up to a certain production day and your car may have had parts that were used from before that."

Hey, folks. Have a 2014 Q5 with 103k miles on it. Bought it new. Started experiencing the oil consumption problems described by all of you when mileage got to 90k. Now I put a new quart in every 600 miles. Trusted Audi mechanic told me to trade it in while it still drives. Very disappointed.

Bought a new 2015 Audi Q5, loved driving the car. 7 recalls & 5 years later at 65K, Q5 starts needing 1 quart of oil every 1000K. Took it to the purchase dealer, who performed most services, and paid $100 & then $500 for Part 1 & 2 of oil consumption tests. Submitted all service records to AUDI of America and the AUDI Morton Grove, (IL). Blue Book value of the car is 16K... Dealer wanted 15K to install a new engine! Sold the car & would never buy another AUDI due to poor quality car, but more importantly a company the throws their customer under the bus

I have been a little late in submitting a follow up to my original post. After long discussions with my wife and talking to friends who are car buffs I decided to unload my Q5. When I bought my Q5 I also had looked at the Lexus RX 350 but decided on the Audi. This time based on talking to lots of Lexus owners I bought a 2017 RX450 with 41,000Km on the clock. This is the hybrid model and I must say for a vehicle this size and weight I am amazed at the gas mileage I get. Current getting 7.5L/100km (31.4 mpg) compared to the Q5 11L/100km (21.4mpg). The one common thing that all the RX350/450 owners I talked to said was they have not had any major issues with their vehicles other than regular maintenance (oil changes, brakes etc.). Some of these owners were driving 2010 and 2012 vehicles so these have been on the road a long time. Goodbye Audi,

Purchased 2014 Audi Q5 brand new in 2014. Easy driver, now with 100K miles. Always serviced/oil/filter changes at local Audi dealership. Started to notice uncommon oil consumption at approximately 80k miles. Dealer recommended we replace the valve cover gasket (sorry for any tech term misuse here). But, I have never noticed any oil on the garage floor, oil burning smell, or smoke from under hood. The new gasket was installed with 98k miles. I have since added 3 quarts of oil. I have taken the car back into the service department once a week for 4 weeks. They just can’t seem to figure out what the issue is and have asked that we just keep bringing it back every time the low oil light comes on – as part of their continuing “diagnosis”. OK – Am I just being played here? I am certain they are well aware of the oil consumption issue. With that being said, I am on the side of the isle that claims the “Audi oil consumption” issue has NOT been resolved. In addition, back when we bought the car, we really had no idea nor had heard of any oil consumption issue or class action law suit (bad on me). We did buy the Audi Pure Protection Extended Service Plan. Although, they cover their bases here also in the section covering “Exclusions” – want to take a guess what is excluded….? You guessed it…. “The correction of oil consumption”.

Ditto to just about everything above regarding our 2015 Q5 with 110k starting back around 80k. I’m not a tree hugger, but I feel awful that all this very slick oil is blowing out onto our roads !! Yikes I have a hitch mounted bike rack that is absolutely covered with “splattered oil”! Seems like Audi is senselessly making our roads more dangerous!

Just wanted to share my experience. I am in Canada and I have a 2013 2.0T Audi Q5. I have this issue, and it's been quite a headache. If Audi does not cover it I am going to shout from every social media platform I have to avoid their brand at all costs. But I am being respectful and following the procedure of the dealership... after all... they are going to negotiate on my behalf with Audi Corporate right? At around 70,000KM I noticed the car needed topping up of oil between changes... 500ML here and there. Read the book, talked to dealer, and decided it is was surprisingly stupid, but "all expected". Then at around 90,000KM I noticed that we were adding 1L of oil every 2000KM. Mentioned it to the dealership... they said it has to be under 1000KM or Audi would fail "oil consumption test"... but I was getting close... Then at around 120,000KM and many top-offs later... I realized I am using about 1L of oil every 1000KM. It is frustrating. But I wanted to pass this test to get it actually repaired. At around 130,000KM I realized that I am using about 1L every 500KM. Yes, you read that right. I did oil consumption stage 1 test (oil/filter change) and paid for it. After 500KM the add oil light is on. Now they said come in for stage 2 test (piston firing/service history review). I asked if it was covered, they said no I would pay out of pocket. Then they would determine if based on my service history and test results from these two tests with Audi corporate how much % would be covered of the repair, if any. Will keep you posted.

Just an update to let you know that Audi Canada did not cover a dime despite a complete service record and both consumption tests (stage 1 and 2) showing massive oil burning issue. Why? The car is "too old", why didn't you just say that before making me pay for 2 tests? Pretty insane! I will never buy another Audi vehicle again and will tell my family to stay away from these crooks. VW Auto group can't be trusted to do the right thing. Sell it now while the resale market is hot and jump to a better brand.

I figured I'd pile on also in the event that one more of the same comment can deter even one person from making the mistake we've all made. Same thing happened with my 2014 Audi Q5 - at about 80k miles it started and was quickly going through a quart of oil every 600 miles. The timing chain had to be replaced around 120k miles and then soon after that repeated check engine lights and trips to the dealership and they determined it then needed a new camshaft. Like others I paid around $3k for the timing chain replacement so to be hit with another $3k for a camshaft on a vehicle that probably wasn't worth much more than $10k at the time seemed crazy. A month or two later and it stranded my wife on the highway - catastrophic engine failure at 128k miles. I have owned some of the biggest POS old cars in my life and none of them were as poor performing money pits as the Audi Q5. Frankly it is borderline criminal that this is even allowed to continue. Besides all of the heartbroken customers that have been ripped off, what is the environmental impact of building a high end vehicle with endless features that ends up in the scrap heap 8 years and 128k miles later? Run fast and far from Audis.
