what does the signal "engine failure" mean and how do i correct it?

signal light comes on usually after I get gas.  once every two weeks

If your check engine light is flashing, you should bring it to your local autozone and get the codes read. It generally means you have a small problem. Could be a bad O2 sensor, or a spark failure. Hard to tell unless you have the error codes read.
