Talk about your car

Since we're all in the Volvo 122 club, i assume we all own at least one Volvo 122.  I just joined this "club" and I'm looking for some stories of problems and some badass solutions to them.  I'm sure we've all had to deal with the same shit.

I'll start.  For the past year and a half, or so, I've been picking at my 1966 121 wagon.  The car was given to me for free (having sat in a yard un-registered since 2002), and I've only had to put forth a minute sum of cash to get it running decently.  THE most aggrivating and troublesome system in this car would have to be the brakes!
When I began working on the car, the brakes were dry.  In bleeding them for the first time, I discovered that the fluid was escaping in several places besides the bleeder screw.
It has taken me months of of Saturday car repair sessions to finally earn fully functional brakes.  All my lines have been replaced (a clusterf**** of finding the right fittings at a very unsupportive auto zone, and of flaring my own brake lines after sliding on the correct fittings), i've basically rebuilt the front calipers without really replacing anything, and I've actually rebuilt the rear drums (which required the fabrication of that special tool you need, cause i'm cheap).

First off, Auto zone may be the worst place in the entire world to get parts...
Check IPD, if they don't have it online, they'll either find it or know where to get it.
Swedish treasures is good for restoration Volvos pre 1971, more money for some things, but maybe the only place you'll find things like chrome trim and window foam...

Happy Volvoing!

I use IPD a lot, actually (although it's expensive).  I only go to Auto Zone for stuff like a spark coil or brake fluid.  And the staff is very unhelpful and crabby.
I toiled over the brake lines in my good 122, scouring the internet for the right thread on a flared line.  I ended up quitting this endeavor, and used the fittings from the lines on my piece-o-shit 122 that resides in the back yard.  Rescued from a rotting garage in New Jersey, this parts car has saved me more than once.

Sweet project, Ross
