how do you check the tranny fluid on a 1997 c280 mb

It didn't come with a dip stick, the filler hole has a cap ( under the hood) that says something like verboten do not open upon pain of death :) .Once you get the cap off you will see a hole- no dip stick. You were suppose to never change the tranny fluid. There is (was) a dip stick,. that only the shop had. So you probably should (in my opinion) change the fluid which involves draining,filter,buying a dip stick. May want to get a shop manual .
