Question type: Maintenance & Repair

had gasket work done, drove 400kmsin a day and a half  when tapping noise and care with no power when driving in 1 or 2nd gear.and now being told bottom engine needs to be done.
could this have been prevented or seen when work was being done on head gasket?
what would be fair price to be looking at for repair, taking into account top engine already done.Car model is 1998 around 109000kms

thanks

That`s usualy true. A friend of mine has the same problem. As I heard alfas have a tendency to run dry. There is an oil valve that breaks and the engine isn`t getting oil. My friend described the same simptomes and that is what happened. He is waiting for a new engine for around 2500e. And yes he is stupid and hardheaded:)))) anyway the valve is by the oil filter that caused the problem. Hope it helped!
